{"id":349,"date":"2014-03-06T10:42:53","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T10:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/?p=349"},"modified":"2014-04-04T06:09:24","modified_gmt":"2014-04-04T06:09:24","slug":"northern-ireland-and-the-giants-causeway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/?p=349","title":{"rendered":"Northern Ireland and the Giants Causeway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t have too much to say about Belfast.\u00a0 I caught some sort of virus and spent most of the time we were there holed up in the hotel room, sleeping.\u00a0 I did enjoy the Titanic museum.\u00a0 It really covered not only the Titanic, but also the industrial revolution in Northern Ireland and the ship building industry in the UK.\u00a0 There was minimal exposure to Celine Dion.<\/p>\n<p>Street art.<a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_1577.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-350\" alt=\"IMG_1577\" src=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_1577-1024x1024.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_1577-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_1577-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_1577-624x624.jpg 624w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_1577.jpg 1936w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The drive up the coast was fabulous.\u00a0 We had a cold, sunny day and the views got better around every turn.\u00a0 See Bret&#8217;s pictures from the <a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/?p=330\" target=\"_blank\">trip<\/a>.\u00a0 We arrived at our destination, <a href=\"http:\/\/finnmaccools.co.uk\/home\/About.html\" target=\"_blank\">Finn MacCool&#8217;s<\/a> right as the weather starting turning back to rainy.\u00a0 Finn MacCool&#8217;s is a wee family run pub and guest house.\u00a0 We loved it there.<\/p>\n<p>The Giant&#8217;s Causeway<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2467.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-352\" alt=\"IMG_2467\" src=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2467-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2467-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2467-1500x2000.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2467-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Giant&#8217;s causeway is this 300m stretch of the coast where the rocks look like stacked beehives (Does anyone remember the video game Qbert?) the Chimney Rocks (The chimney to Finn MacCool&#8217;s house).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2498.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" little colder and wetter, so we made one more stop at Dunluce Castle before grabbing some lunch and heading to the Bushmill&#8217;s Whiskey Distillery. <a license to distill &#8220;great quantities of aquavite, usquabagh and aqua composita,&#8221; under King James I back in 1608!\u00a0 It had probably been brewing whiskey long before then, however.\u00a0 They have made whiskey under the Bushmill&#8217;s label since the late 1700s.\u00a0 We enjoyed the tour and the complimentary whiskey at the end.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2553.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-368\" alt=\"IMG_2553\" the whiskey.\u00a0 Dinner beverages were more my style.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2554.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" finish our tour of the night life of Bushmills.\u00a0 We had started the night before with a pint and a game of snookers at the Bush House, so we finished up with pint at the Scotch House Inn and Bistro.\u00a0 I have a hard time believing there was any bistro associated with the Scotch house, but we did make some friends.\u00a0 Barney, sidled up shortly after we walked in and offered up a fist bump to me after telling me how drunk\u00a0 he was.\u00a0 The rest of our conversation alternated fist bumps, with him telling me how drunk he was or him asking me the same few questions over and over.\u00a0 It was quite amusing.\u00a0 Then, we met Stephen, who was really nice and give us some insight into Bushmills, in general, and the Scotch House Inn, in particular.\u00a0 It turn out the bar maid at the Scotch House may be the sassiest in the region.\u00a0 After we finished our pints, we returned to Finn MacCools for some night caps.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning, we picked up early and took the long road back to Cork in some light rain.
