{"id":205,"date":"2015-07-20T17:33:25","date_gmt":"2015-07-20T17:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/?p=205"},"modified":"2015-07-20T17:33:25","modified_gmt":"2015-07-20T17:33:25","slug":"barrel-to-keg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/?p=205","title":{"rendered":"Barrel to Keg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had another great weekend out in the Oregon summer sunshine.\u00a0 Saturday we joined a team of seven intrepid (or more likely slightly insane) runners and ran 69 miles across the Oregon Coast Range from the Harris Bridge winery in Philomath to the Rogue Brewery in Newport.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/b2kmap.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-207\" src=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/b2kmap-300x164.png\" alt=\"b2kmap\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/b2kmap-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/b2kmap-1024x561.png 1024w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/b2kmap.png 1286w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The race is called the Barrel to Keg relay and it is a fundraiser for a local charity, the <a href=\"http:\/\/communityservices.us\/\">Community Services Consortium<\/a>.\u00a0 They started about 115 teams of runners and walkers, which ranged in size from 1 person to 7 people, in waves between 5am (solo runners) and 9am.\u00a0 The course is organized into 14 legs that varied in length from about 4 miles to 7 miles.\u00a0 In theory, they start the slower teams earlier, so everyone ends up at the finish around the same time.\u00a0 Somehow, we ended up in the second to last wave&#8230;\u00a0 which left a lot of people for us to catch up to.<\/p>\n<p>We had so much fun, that this is the only picture I got all day.\u00a0 I swear we posed for a picture with the barrel and the keg, but it somehow didn&#8217;t make it to my phone.\u00a0 This was before the start&#8230; that is why we all look so happy and clean!\u00a0 Ed was not in the picture because he did double duty and filled our volunteer spot early on the course, then ran a leg later in the race.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0034.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-206\" src=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0034-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0034\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0034-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0034-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite being the person who actually got to assign legs to people on our team, I somehow managed to assign myself to 11 miles with almost 900 ft of climbing.\u00a0 Clearly I did not take a good look at what I was getting myself into.\u00a0 Bret ran almost 10 miles too!\u00a0 It was a HOT, sunny day so the race was quite a challenge.\u00a0 We went through a lot of water and quite a bit of PBR (energy drink of champions).\u00a0 Two people on our team ran the longest distance they had ever run in a day&#8230; so a lot of accomplishments were accrued.\u00a0 We finished in about 10.5 hours!<\/p>\n<p>The next day, we were a little sore.\u00a0 Oval had a lot more energy to burn than any of us, so we took her to the Willamette to run around with her friend Maia.\u00a0 Her swimming is coming along nicely (she is the big splash right in front of me).\u00a0 She was even swimming out to fetch balls all on her own!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_00372.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-208\" src=\"http:\/\/bretandemily.bretandemily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_00372-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0037~2\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_00372-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bretandemily.com\/bretandemily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_00372.jpg 886w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, we all slept pretty well last night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We had another great weekend out in the Oregon summer sunshine.\u00a0 Saturday we joined a team of seven intrepid (or more likely slightly insane) runners and ran 69 miles across the Oregon Coast Range from the Harris Bridge winery in Philomath to the Rogue Brewery in Newport.
